Richer Beggars - Poorer People

Throw a stone; it will fall either on an engineer or on a Bengali. So much is the number of engineering graduates. Go for medicine, you can ruin at least eight years in your studies. These figures make parents ponder for a new profession with minimum studies and maximum profit. We all have the best answer-begging, but dignity detains us from choosing it as a career.

A beggar richer than you and me, a beggar with a daily earning ten times to yours, a beggar who comes in air conditioned car for begging, another one owning two flats in Mumbai, yet another with estates in homeland… These figures are not framed, neither boasted. Go search for Bharat Jain, Krishna Kumar Gite, Sarvatia Devi for example, and get bitter truths. Led by these giants, beggars are the latest breed, perfectly professional.

A decision to mold your remorse, pity and sympathy into food and dress will do. Why give money to those who are up to you for the basic amenities? Let’s clothe them in clothes and love. Let’s feed them, not their greed. Let’s stop encouraging begging mafia, a story many moons old. Say food and cloth, not money. Make it louder…
